I have been in Los Angeles for one month. So far the summer has consisted of:
1. Repeating the following statement approximately fifty times a day:
Hi! My name is Melissa. I'm with a group called Don't Take Our Takeout. The California government is trying to ban styrofoam so you'd have to use more expensive products like paper or plastic. We're in the area gathering letters to Senator _________ so he'll know how many people would be affected by the ban. Would you like to write a letter?"
Cue cricket chirps and blank stares. And about 40% of the time they write one, or have me write one. Most of the time they mutter something about not knowing English or how their manager isn't there. And I walk away cursing their grandchildren and vowing to buy their restaurant and fill it with styrofoam and do a styrofoam dance in the middle. Because everyone gets this riled up about styrofoam, right? Just me? Oh.
2. To quote Fergie (and Hannah), I be up in the gym just working on my fitness.
Say what you will about Fergie, but she's got a rockin' bod. So you can see me at 24 Hour working that elliptical and the treadmill. Oh yeah.
3. Popping back to Utah for an awesome five days. I went on a fifth wheel date, watched a lot of Prison Break, slept, went to Kristin's open house, read books, and went to eat at my favorite Utah restaurants. And other stories. For another time
4. Watching the Bachelorette. Nothing like seeing a bunch of America's most eligible bachelors who are "looking for love" and are "there for the right reasons" try to win over Ashley. Team Ames, baby. Let's get rid of Bentley the Provo All-Star stat, mmk?
5. Visiting old friends. I love seeing my second family every Sunday. I get the red carpet rolled out for me and lots of food and relaxing and chatting. Perfect.
6. Seeing the sights. I'll admit, us interns haven't been the best about takign in all LA has to offer, but we have been to Huntington Beach, the LA Farmer's market, and downtown LA (a lot). And we have been on business trips from San Jose to Calexico. Living the dream.
I'll be in the LA area through next Thursday. Let's meet up!
