This Is My Jam #1

I have a little bit of a confession to make. We all know I love music. I love discovering music, I love sharing music, I love listening to music so cool no one's every heard of it. Here's where the confession comes in:

I also love pop music, the top 40 kind you hear on the radio. It's all I listen to in the car. I should hate that stuff right? Wrong. I love it and I know I'm not the only one out there. So I decided to do a shout out to all my favorite embarrassing songs. I can't decide if this will be a weekly thing, monthly thing, or not a thing at all. We'll just see how it goes.

So without further ado, I bring you the first installment of  "This Is My Jam:"

If you don't think this is Miley Cyrus' magnum opus you are wrong. And if you don't think that the United States should change this to their national anthem you are also wrong (the only other acceptable option is Ignition (Remix). Did you know there was a petition to get it changed? Where do I sign?)

She hops off the plane at LAX with her dreams and her cardigan (didn't we all Miley, didn't we all), welcome to the land of fame excess (whoa), is she gonna fit in? Jumps in the cab, here she is for the first time, looks to the right and sees the Hollywood sign (you know that's not possible right? Whatever. Doesn't matter)

She gets to the club in her taxi cab, and everybody looking at her now (She was 17 when this song came out...what club was this?) They judge her for her kicks, assuming that she's gotta be from out of town. (It's ok Miley, I've had this happen to me too. I went to a club in Vegas wearing ballet flats and a sweater. A guy asked to buy me a drink and I told him a bottle of water. He never came back #winning) It's so hard with my girls not around her (I tried unsuccessfully to get Jane to make this the title of her mission blog), and she makes the profound observation that this is definitely not a Nashville party (if you have not at least THOUGHT this in your life during an uncomfortable situation, I really don't know what to do with you) because all she sees are stilettos. I guess she never got the memo.

In conclusion, I love this jam. And when the DJ plays this song I feel alri-iiiight.

  1. Just watched the whole music video. Amen to this. If I were totally honest on my "Listening to" notes at the bottom of my blog, it'd be "Madonna, 'Ray of Light'" 9 times out of 10.

  2. Um ok. Can I tell you that I have wanted to blog about this exact same thing? How people who love music so much can't possibly love anything that is popular. Good music is good music; I don't care if it is from some hipster, obscure artist no one knows about or someone everyone knows about! Amen Mel, amennn. And this song? This is my jamsssss.
